Having a fashionable pregnancy

Just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your style. Most of my favorite maternity staples aren't found in the maternity section/store. Sometimes all it takes is thinking outside the box. Over at Pickles and Chapstick I have put some cute maternity outfits together that you can't find in the maternity section.

21 weeks = length of a carrot

21 weeks and the "McBaby" is the length of a carrot and weighs a little less than a pound. Read more about that and my dislike for maternity clothes at Pickles and Chapstick.

I would LOVE to attend the National Stationary Show. Thanks to Oh So Beautiful Paper I got to pretend I was there. They did a wonderful job of documenting the event on their website. Above are just a few favorites that I saw.

This is what happens when you've been listening to a load of Alt Rock...

Listening to a lot of 90s alt rock inspired this post. Things I remember most about the 90s
- Plaid skirts w/combat boots
- Empire Records
- Combat boots
- my out of control wavy hair
- cut offs
- yellow sony walkman
- listening to the radio for my songs
- "what about your friends..."
- Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford, Nikki Taylor, etc. gracing magazine covers
- Calvin Kline fragrances
- Riding my sled down the stairs just like Kevin McCallister did.
- "I did not have sexual relations with that woman"
- Aerosmith videos
- Independence Day (the movie)
- "The Blue Album" & Pinkerton
- I was in Science class when the OJ verdict was read.
- Brown eyeliner/lip liner with chapstick (yes, i wore that on a few occasions)
- Busting out the "tootsie roll" at dances or anywhere I felt like.
- Stephanie Seymour & Axl Rose

We hit 18 weeks and I'm getting sappy. Read about it over at Pickles & Chapstick.

Boho Inspiration

Summer always gets me in this boho mood. All I want to do is let my hair do whatever it wants, wear flowy outfits, take day trips and spend a majority of the time at the beach. I found these photos that fit my boho mood this morning. Hopefully these can hold me over until next month when Summer finally arrives!

Is someone moving? Here's an idea...

Normally goodie bags are something you get after a party. I decided to switch it up a bit and make a good bag for a friend who was moving back east. Read more about it over at Pickles and Chapstick.

yummy summer hair

One of my favorite thing about summer (besides sundresses and sandals) is loose and messy hair. I call it beach or summer hair. I have very thick and wavy hair. Most days I wake up and look like I crawled out of a Whitesnake video. My hair spends most of fall, winter and a majority of spring being flat ironed or curled with the flat iron. I think my hair breathes a sigh of relief once summer rolls around because I just it does what it wants. Sometimes I'll add a little product to it. Most of the time it's in my famous messy bun or in some loose up do that involves braids. I like rolling up a bandanna or one of my cute vintage scarves and tying it with a messy bun. This way it keeps the "baby hairs" or "fly aways" from attacking my face at the beach or when it gets breezy. Above are some summer hair inspirations. What's your summer hair care ritual?

BBQ + Fiesta + Boogie Nights = Party Time!

My best friend's birthday is roughly 3 weeks away. However, I'm one of those "planning" types that needs to start getting organized so things will run smoothly. BBQ + Fiesta + Boogie Nights. These are the three themes I'm putting together. Above is my rough draft mood board to help start the planning process. Fingers crossed everything turns out perfectly!

Outfit: 16 weeks

As I'm "expanding" I'm constantly finding the next cute thing to wear. On Mother's Day I treated myself to some retail therapy. I'm not a fan of most of the maternity clothes that are out there. Just because your pregnant or a mom doesn't mean you to have sacrifice your wardrobe. Most of the reasonable priced pieces are on the "frumpy" side and more of the stylish stuff is out of my price range. As much as I love fashion, I'm not a huge fan of shopping. So instead of viewing it as "shopping" for clothing that I'll fit into, I turn it into an adventure. My adventure this past Sunday brought me to Forever 21 where I found this dress (the last one might I add!). I tried it on in hopes that my expanding belly would have room to grow in it. My hopes were answered because it's perfect! I decided to pair it up with a skinny belt, threw on my favorite blazer and paired it up with my new wedges and voila! The perfect outfit for a smaller growing belly! You can wear it to work, wear it out to dinner, etc. It also looks cute with a pair of flats.

Photobooth has become my morning mirror

Getting up at 5:30am is hard. Being out the door by at least 6am is even harder. I've got into the routine of laying out my outfit the night before. I have to wash and do my hair at night. In the morning I HAVE to wake up at 5:30. There's no time to hit the snooze anymore. This leaves me barely anytime to "primp". I'm lucky that I'm able to brush my teeth and run a comb through my hair. My early mornings at work are a blessing and a curse. I'm the first one there so I get to enjoy my music (almost) as loud as I like it. I also have enough time to quickly throw on make up. My compact's mirror is way too small so I found the next best thing to a large mirror... photo booth. I put my make up on using it and I usually do a double take of my outfit. I still use the compact mirror for applying eyeliner but that's about it. Until I decide to invest in a mirror for work... photo booth will be my friend!

Mother's Day

Don't worry I didn't spend all of Mother's Day making "gangsta" faces and blasting my favorite rap hits. You can read about my semi sappy Mother's Day at Pickles & Chapstick.

Off to the races!

If you're going to the Kentucky Derby this weekend there is one fashion accessory that you will need... a hat! I'm not sure how I feel about horse racing but I do know how I feel about finding the perfect dress and pairing it up with the perfect hat. If you're going to the Kentucky Derby or attending a Kentucky Derby party and still don't know what to wear on your head.. look above. Above are a few ideas for the perfect Derby hat.

It's that time of year again... it's Cinco de Mayo!

I have always wanted to throw a Cinco de Mayo party. I love the idea of getting your friends together, decorating with brightly colored paper flowers, making delicious margaritas and snacking on yummy Mexican food. Need decorations? If you have time you can make them on your own or if you live in LA you can take a trip to Olvera Street. Try switching things up a bit by serving margarita cupcakes (seen above) or making Corona Popsicles! Have a fun and safe Cinco de Mayo and throw one back for me!
